We Started Where You Are Now
Back in 2019, three friends sat in a cramped Toronto apartment comparing investment accounts. None of us had formal finance training. We just knew that starting felt intimidating and most resources either oversimplified or overwhelmed.
From Questions to Answers
What began as personal curiosity turned into something bigger. We noticed a gap between traditional financial advice and what everyday Canadians actually needed. Most people don't want complicated jargon or aggressive sales pitches. They want clarity.
So we built Leravox. Not as finance experts lecturing from above, but as people who learned by doing and wanted to share what worked. Our approach centers on practical steps, real scenarios, and honest conversations about money.
By early 2023, we'd helped over 400 people take their first investment steps. That number still surprises us.
How We Help You Find Your Path
Everyone's financial situation is different. Instead of one-size-fits-all advice, we guide you through questions that reveal what makes sense for your specific circumstances.
Your Starting Point
Where are you right now financially? Do you have savings set aside? What's your comfort level with risk? We start by understanding your actual situation, not an idealized version.
Your Timeline
Are you investing for next year or twenty years from now? Your timeframe completely changes which options make sense. We help you think through realistic goals without pushing aggressive timelines.
Your Learning Style
Some people want detailed explanations. Others prefer quick summaries and clear action steps. We offer both, so you can dig deep or skim the surface depending on what works for you.
What Makes Us Different
We don't claim to be the smartest people in finance. But we've spent years translating complex concepts into language that actually makes sense. And we've tested everything we teach with real people in real situations.
Our content avoids two extremes: the overly simplistic "just do this" advice that ignores nuance, and the unnecessarily complicated explanations that leave you more confused than when you started.
Canadian Context
Tax rules, account types, and investment vehicles differ here. We focus exclusively on what's relevant for people living and working in Canada.
No Hidden Agenda
We don't sell investment products or earn commissions. Our only goal is helping you understand your options so you can make informed choices.
Realistic Expectations
You won't find promises about getting rich quick or guarantees about returns. We discuss probabilities, risks, and the messy reality of investing.
Ongoing Learning
Markets change. Rules change. We update our content regularly and admit when we get things wrong or when something needs revision.
Who We Are
A small team working from London, Ontario. We're not Wall Street analysts or Bay Street executives. Just people who care about financial literacy and enjoy teaching.
Annika Helström
Former high school teacher who joined us in 2021. Annika designs our learning programs and makes sure everything we create is actually understandable. She tests all content with her partner who has zero finance background.
Declan Rafferty
Writes most of what you read on this site. Previously worked in tech documentation, which explains his obsession with clarity. Spends too much time asking "but why?" about financial concepts.
Siobhan Quillen
Keeps us honest by fact-checking everything. Has an uncanny ability to find the one exception to any investment rule. Also manages our small community of learners who help test new materials.

What Guides Our Work
We revisit these principles whenever we're deciding what to create or how to explain something. They keep us focused on what actually matters.
Honesty Over Hype
If we don't know something, we say so. If research shows mixed results, we present both sides. We'd rather lose a reader than mislead someone about their money.
Practicality Over Theory
Academic concepts matter, but only if they help you make better decisions. We focus on information you can actually use, not interesting trivia that sounds impressive but doesn't change anything.
Progress Over Perfection
Starting imperfectly beats not starting at all. We encourage small steps and realistic goals rather than waiting for the "perfect" moment that never arrives.
Respect Over Assumption
We don't assume you're clueless or that you need everything dumbed down. We also don't assume you know industry jargon. We aim for the middle ground where explanations are clear without being condescending.
